Feeling Tool #2 What Are You Feeling Right Now? Each time you have an urge to eat when you are not hungry or overeat past fullness, stop for one full minute and ask yourself what you are feeling. “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer. Go in and find it. There is an emotion that is signaling you to eat when you aren’t hungry and the first step is to find out what it is. One of my clients asked me, “What do you expect me to do when all the anxiety and fear comes up?” Feel it. Find the feeling and feel it. Go into it. As you are going through your day, ask yourself what are you feeling now? How are you feeling at this very moment? If you think it’s stress or anxiety, sit with the idea that it’s a cover emotion. What is underneath the anxiety? What is underneath the stress? If you feel like you want to eat, ask yourself why? If you feel like you’re unhappy because you are fat, guess again. There is a real feeling that is inside you. Find out what it is.
