Even if you are faced with responsibilities, even if you have had a terrible day at work, even if you haven’t slept very well…GET YOUR SHOES ON! Put your shoes on and go outside and walk no matter what. It seems that if you can take the first step, no matter how hard it is, and put your shoes on, you can do your workout even if it’s just for five minutes. It can be the one constant in your life. It can be the thing you do for YOU no matter what else happens. Excuses belong on paper and not in your life. If you have an excuse, write it down. I give my clients lists numbered 1–50 and I ask them to fill it up during our time together. I tell them that they can have excuses, but they need to write them down and then get their shoes on. Fill up the page with excuses, then fill up your life with fulfilled commitments to yourself. Here are some samples of excuses that look really good on paper: I Con’t have time. I am too bDsy. I CiCn’t sleeY well. I have to clean. I have to taXe ca1e o+ my XiCs. I am e^haDsteC. I have to wo1X. I hDst want to 1ela^. I Cese1ve a b1eaX. I am in Yain. I am sicX3 anC I Con’t +eel gooC.
