Feeling Tool #6 Be a Happy Person Experiencing a Negative Situation. Don’t Become the Negative Situation Most people wake up in the morning and wonder what kind of day they are going to have. They wonder what might happen to them that will determine how they feel that day. Not me. I wake up and decide today will be a good day no matter what happens out there. I am a happy person and I own the ability to remain that way. I can be happy at my core and go through a neg- ative experience. I can feel a negative emotion all the way through and decide that it will not be the emotion I live by that day. I can be peaceful in the most stress- ful of circumstances. I am not saying you decide to fake being happy, rather that you actually decide to be happy. I know. You are thinking, “Easier said than done.” But really it’s not. Many clients tell me they have a very stressful life. I ask them what that has to do with how they feel. Your life may be chaotic, but that doesn’t mean you have to be.
