When we looked at this in detail, we noticed that coming home to an empty house brought up a feeling of loneliness. When she saw loneliness coming, she ran to the kitchen and ate. She then fiercely judged and berated herself for eating and reminded herself how fat she was. And it worked! She didn’t feel lonely at all! She was able to distract herself into feeling fat so loneliness was the furthest thing from her mind. If she could allow the loneliness to come and really let herself feel it, she would be connecting to what is true for her. She could then explore the cause of the loneliness, the belief sys- tem that is presenting it, and understand how she can be lonely without eating. She would discover that feel- ing lonely is not such a horrible thing that she can’t live through. She would understand that she could sur- vive a little loneliness and come out healthy and strong on the other side. She would know that there is life after loneliness. If she allowed lonliness, she wouldn’t need to eat to distract herself from it. She could peacefully meet it head on. Weelings A1e +o1 Weeling ! 99 Lonliness is hDst a +eeling3 not a state o+ being.
