It just keeps utilizing the food you are eating and continues to store any excess as fat. Overeating leads to over-storage of fat. We never get a chance to use the fat on our body for fuel. It has enough to sustain us for months. If we are obese it has enough to sustain us literally for years. The longest fast I could find when I googled was a man who fasted for 382 days. This means he used his own fat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for more than a year! That is a total of 1,146 meals he was carrying around on his body! I laugh with my clients and call this “dining in.” Hunger is not an emergency. Even the true sensation of hunger can be solved pretty easily by dining in on our own body fat. So why do we freak out and eat so often? What is going on that we think WE NEED FOOD RIGHT THIS SECOND OR WE WILL PERISH? It's because we have overhunger. Overhunger is not our natural state. OK, so I know you must be asking, why do we have overhunger? Why are we so darn hungry and food- focused? The answer is obvious, but we don't see it because it seems to be normal.
